Part 4 - Final Part

Bayo got a call from his father this fateful day.

"Hello Dad"

"Hello Son  goodnews, goodnews, guess what?"

"Dad you know I am not good at guessing, talk jor"

“Ohk, the King of Iludun is dead"

"Dead? How is that a good news Dad?"

“Common dont tell me you have forgotten so soon, that you are next in line, the Chiefs of the kingdom have asked me to bring you for the necessary rites"

"oooohhhhh that is true, wow, I am so happy Dad I didnt forget actually, I have just had a lot on my mind recently, so when are we going"

“Dont worry my son, as the new King, all your problems will be settled, we shall go next tomorrow."

"Alright Dad, see you soon”

"Bye "

Bayo was crowned the king of Iludun and he began to rule over them, his reign was different, the people enjoyed him; he was intelligent and brought new inventions to the land. He was so good to them, he provided solutions to their problems and he also got all that he wanted as a king. Iludun was truly sweet to live in. Bayo lived happily with all that he had. Everyone was happy.

Years passed, and Bayo wasnt getting younger, he became terribly sick to the extent that death was knocking on the door. All they did to make him strong proved abortive.

“The King will die soon" says a soothsayer. “and there is a problem" he says,

"whenever this particular king dies one of his wives must be buried with him, or else, the land will know no peace forever!"

"haaaaaa!" the chiefs shouted.

So, there was the quest for which of the five wives will die with the king. The chiefs called his wives separately and decided to ask them one after the other, starting with the last wife.

"Hilda, the kings last wife",  said one of the chiefs, you know how much the king loves you, cherish you and considering the fact that he has spent a whole lot on you, will you die with the king?"

"Never! am I mad ni, please o, please, please and please, I am still young, I am not ready to die please. Ehn ehn, he has spent a lot on me, so what? ehn does that mean I should die with him? besides we came to this world differently, we go differently abeg. What nonsense. Mtchew"

"OK, we have heard you", replied the chief with a sigh.

On to the next wife.

"Caroline, you know the king does not go anywhere without taking you along" said one of the chiefs"

" Yes that is very much true, King goes nowhere without me", she said proudly.

"Enhen, so you see, since the king goes nowhere without you, and since he is going to the grave very soon, you will definitely go with him too right?", a chief said

"What! Grave! Or what did you just say? Ahn ahn, what is my offense? I can go anywhere else but definitely not the grave I permit the king to go there alone" , She said angrily.

It was the turn of Chile the third wife and the chief also asked her.

"Chile, the king's brain, you know the king trained you so well, you went to the best of schools. You have the highest degree and you have been the King's advicer all this while. We feel the king will need you to also go with him to the grave so you can keep advising him in the grave too." A chief said

"Besides that, we know you love the king so much, because we hear you say several times that you can't do without him
So, Chile will you do him the honour of going to the grave with him?" Another chief asked.

Chile laughed so loudly and said , " You are nincompoops! " what use is my knowledge to him in the grave? I can't do without him when he is alive but, I can do without him as a dead man, so get that clear. I am going nowhere!" She said.

"OK" the chiefs said and left.

Wemimo who was the next to be asked didn't even wait for the chief to get to her, she took her things and ran away from the palace. By the time they got to know of her disappearance, she had gone far.

Sade, who also knew about what was going on kept calm. The chiefs were reluctant to ask her because they knew that, out of all the King's wives, she had been the one the king gave the least concentration, he had always been less concerned about her.

However, they still decided to ask, knowing what would be her answer too.

"Sade, we have to come to ask you too, just as we have been asking others, we know that you are likely to say the same because, we know the king has loved others more than you, but we will still ask, will you die with the king?"

Sade smiled and responded,
"I am already dead, the day the king dies, we came to this world together, we will go together, we have lived our lives together, the good, bad and ugly had been all together. I am dying with the king my chiefs", she said "I am ready"

This was unbelievable for the chiefs, but yet, they were happy because their land will now have peace.
They reported back to the king and he was so surprised that it was his first wife Sade that agreed to die with him.
"Kabiyesi o" said one of the chiefs, we have asked all your wives, which of them is going with you, but we didnt get any positive answer from  four of them, wemimo is even no where to be found, we almost gave up until Sade told us she was going to die with you", the chief said.

"Sade? That I never gave concentration?" he lamented, "so this is how it is. I die with who I came to the world with", He shook his head.

He thought about the different things he bought and spent for Wemimo, the School expenses for Chile, the amount of money on medical expenses of Caroline and the huge amount of money on  surgery for Hilda
He cried

"So I came to this world alone and die alone, all I have laboured and suffered for can't go into the grave with me."

The King eventually died and Sade also died alongside.

The End

Interpretation of the story characters.

Bayo depicts the body of a man, whose characteristics is to seek more of the things of the flesh. A man's body comes with a Sade, which is his soul and spirit, through which he lives. Bayo's riches were the resources God gave to him from above but he only used these resources to take care of the things of the flesh and stopped giving attention to his soul and spirit.

Wemimo depicts a man's spouse who will always come with lots of demands, Chile depicts the child a man gives birth to who has to be sent to school and trained. Man puts a lot of resources in doing this, while forgetting to feed his soul and spirit.

Caroline depicts the car a man buys that along the line starts breaking down, resources are put into and it's being taken it to the mechanic always.

Hilda depicts every other thing a man cherishes, house, business, investment and so on. Man puts in resources to fix all that goes wrong in all these and yet, they do not follow man to the grave.

Hmmm, don't you now see that all is vanity?

Message

A man can never die with all that he has, it is only with what he came with he will go with, which is his soul and spirit. It is the soul that will give account of what has been done on earth, whether good or bad. Feed your soul and spirit with the wisdom of God and his word. Be mindful of how you concentrate on earthly things to the detriment of your soul and spirit because these things will never die with you. Remember they are all vanities.

Eccl 1:2
Smoke, nothing but smoke, that is what the quester says, there is nothing to anything, its all smoke (Msg)

Vanities of vanities, saith the preacher, vanities of vanity, all is vanity.

Be guided. Thank you. Stay blessed.
