Writing Your First Book

What you must consider

1.     What are you writing about?

This is what you must consider first before you even think of putting your pen on paper.
Writing varies; you may want to write on relationship, finance, technology

2.     Make research about what you are writing.
Ensure you do your research when you are writing even if a fictitious book, you still need to make research about the kind of plot, the figure of speech to make use of You

3.     Who are your targeted audience?

Every book has it audience that is why you must put in mind the kind of audience you are about reaching out to because you cannot write a book on Relationship(Marital Context) and say your targeted audiences are Children between 2-5years

4.     Set a schedule for Writing

Let me repeat this: set a schedule for writing.

I believe the reason why many writers have not written  their books is because of procrastination.

“I promise that I will start tomorrow”

Then tomorrow comes

“Oh no! See me, I will start next week”

My dear, set a schedule to write because that is a stepping stone becoming an author

5.     Write

Write, write, write! And write. Like I told someone, write what you want to write, leave the rest for the editor to fine tune it.

Many people get scared of penning their thoughts

“I do not know if they will accept
“I cannot be wasting my time writing”

6.     If you are not writing about things related to academic maybe like a textbook or handout, ensure that your writing is what people can relate with.

People tend to draw towards books that they can relate with, maybe by sharing experiencing

As a writer, you must learn the art of story telling

Story telling here does mean writing a story book, it means sharing experiences

E.g you are writing a book on cooking, and your focus for that chapter is on “Ogbono soup” why not share a story of maybe when you cooked the ogbono soup?

You can talk about your experience at the market, how you cooked the Ogbono.

7.     Hire an Editor

I know you know the rules of grammar, you have gained mastery over concord yet you still need an editor.

I remembered when I wrote my first book “The Letter”, I thought I had thoroughly gone through the book but I felt let me send it to one of my developed friend, then she began to spot out mistakes.

8.     Publish
The goal of every author is to see their work being read by all and sundry so publishing is not an option it is a must and thank God for the internet because we now have e-books and you can also publish via hardcopy.
